Doesn’t Independence Day remind us all of all the sacrifices that our freedom fighters made to make our great country India free from the oppression and tyranny of British rule? Independence Day is celebrated on the 15th of August every year in India because on the 15th of August 1947, our country became free and independent from British colonialism, and now we are the largest democracy in the world.

The reason for the celebration of Independence Day is the commemoration of the achievement of independence after years of struggle, which gave full autonomy to our country.
A brief history of Independence Day
For almost 200 years, the Britishers ruled India and persecuted the common people by making their lives miserable to a great extent. There was no any presence of rights to the people under the British regime, and they were treated as slaves. The Britishers were treating our Indian soldiers inhumanely and cruelly, and farmers also lost their lives because of starvation as they could not grow crops due to the reason of high and heavy land taxes that the Britishers levied on them.
The importance of the freedom fighters who struggled for our independence is so colossal that we cannot describe them in words and leaders like Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose, Vallabh Bhai Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi and many more leaders fought audaciously and courageously against the Britishers.
Many of our freedom fighters also lost their lives in the struggle, and today we remember them for every effort they made to make our country independent. We celebrate Independence Day to also read about their contribution and salute them for their resolute struggle to defeat the authoritarian Britishers to give us the air of freedom. Now, let’s know about celebrations in this essay on Independence Day.
How do the celebrations happen on Independence Day?
Independence Day in India is also a national holiday because it is a national festival, and on this day, along with flag hoisting and parades, many cultural events also take place. Wherever in the country, the flag hoisting takes place, the National Anthem Jana Gana Mana is sung thereafter.
The Prime Minister and the President of India also deliver their speeches for the nation and greet the nation differently on the occasion of Independence Day. On the occasion of Independence Day, the Prime Minister of India also hoists the tricolor at the Red Fort and gives the message of unity to the Indians. Schools, colleges, offices, government, and private organizations conduct various functions and programs to celebrate this occasion with fireworks and patriotic songs.
Final point
It is vital for all people in India to remain united irrespective of their caste, creed, region, religion, or anything else because the freedom that we have got has come at the cost of the blood of our soldiers who shed their blood in the struggles against the Britishers to give us this free India to live peacefully. It is always going to be a good idea to remind one another about the brotherhood to prevail because that’s what is the essence of our country.
It’s our duty to protect our country in every possible manner and spread the message and goodness of our country to others as well, and live unitedly for the development of our nation, and this is what entails true independence. I hope that all of you have liked this essay on Independence Day and you all must have got the knowledge about the background of our independence.
